Benefits of Dental Implants
Dental implants are the best tooth-replacement option, in terms of being most like new natural teeth. Dental implants:
- Look like natural teeth
- Stimulate jawbone and gums
- Allow for biting and chewing normally
- Can last a lifetime
Dental implants look like natural teeth because they are like natural teeth. Once they are surgically placed, they mimic what a root of a tooth in the jaw bone feels like. Because implants are supported in your jawbone, they allow you to bite and chew normally.
Unlike bridges and partial dentures, which are supported or secured by other teeth, dental implants attach to your bone and support themselves. This helps your jawbone and gums by stimulating it, which means you won’t experience jawbone loss or receding gums.
When properly cared for, there is no upper limit to the length dental implants can last. Large studies indicate that about 95% of dental implants last 20 years or more.
The Dental Implant Procedure
Dr. Skowronski prefers to work with a specialist for the placing of the dental implant. This improves your odds of success for your dental implants. After the doctor evaluates your oral health and recommends you for dental implants, he will refer you to an oral surgeon or periodontist for placing the dental implant. Our office works diligently with the specialist to coordinate your specific treatment plan. Once the implant is placed, it takes 5-6 months for it to integrate with the jaw bone before it can be fully restored giving the look of a natural tooth. In the event a temporary needs to be fabricated for esthetic reasons, our office can guide you through that process.
